Our Tumblr followers from Bahrain to Berkeley sent in spectacular images of the historic event. We included them here in this slideshow as well as a couple from our Space Editor Ian O’Neill.

Found a picture of the Bradenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany on my dash taken by Alexander Szatkowski as courtesy of lomographicsociety which convinced me to upload my own images which I had taken this summer. In my opinion they aren’t as good, but then again they were taken on an iPhone. © Jai Rodgers
Plogs
Google: Did you mean blog? No. I meant plog and here’s why. So as you may or more likely not know I’ve been doing some googling and I came across an interesting investigation. Here it is: ‘We conducted a study on six Tumblr blogs (oooooh…how scientific-like) and found that content with images, or just images alone, were 327% more likely to be liked or reblogged than plain text content. I really don’t know how much more simply I could explain that to you. So, I won’t’ and neither will I.
Based on this unreliable yet applaudable source of information, I no longer see tumblr as a tool for bloggers… because let’s face it, real bloggers use blogger or wordpress or squarespace or anything that is not tumblr really because the majority of tumblr users are teenage girls that like to reblog pretty pictures. But don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely nothing wrong reblogging pictures of unicorns and rainbows, in fact I just like any other oddly feminine yet somehow straight guy enjoy seeing these pictures - you know the ones I’m talking about. *wink wink nudge nudge* Yeah we all like a good pair of… shoes from time to time, but then again I like any other lingual human being don’t mind seeing some words on my dash every now and again, but all I ever see are pictures. Hence, the term ‘Plog’ ©. I’m a visionary. I know ;)
