This morning, our primary datacenter effectively lost its connection to the Internet after our upstream provider (ISP) suffered a major outage caused by broken fiber lines.
It took nearly five hours before service was fully restored.
Our failover procedures, designed toimmediatelyrebalance traffic over our backup connections, failed to work as expected.
The major failing here was an oversight in how we had been performing ongoing testing of these backup links. Our checks missed an obscure but critical issue in these connections that prevented production traffic from being served properly.
We are already well into an effort to re-evaluate and adjust these testing procedures. We’ll be working through the weekend to make sure we’re not caught off-guard again.

Jumbled Up
My blog’s generally very well mannered but today he’s being a real jerk. He simply refuses to display the posts in the order in which I post them. I don’t understand why he has to be such an asshat about it. If he disagrees with the order in which I have been posting the #Photech Roundup then he could have jolly well said so. I’m not unreasonable. In fact I am more than willing to discuss how the blog should be managed. I can’t see why we couldn’t have had civilised discussion over the matter and settled things like men, by which I mean completely disregard what he has to say and go ahead by doing things just as I intended to do in the first place because this my blog and my blog only. I will not tolerate such childish behaviour. Seriously… so immature.

Dear Tumblr,
I’m sorry I left without much notice, but I just needed some time to myself to think things through. We’ve been together for nearly a year now. That’s longer than any other relationship I’ve ever had. If anyone knows me it’s you so you must have realised by now that I’m not as happy as I used to be. Not in life but in this relationship. It’s not you, it’s me. I just don’t feel the same way anymore. Whatever you do, don’t blame yourself. This isn’t your fault. Over the past few months we’ve grown apart but what we had was good so I guess what I’m really trying to say is that I’d really like us to remain friends and I know that it might take some time but we would be better off that way. I’m sorry.
I did the math and if one really were to use so many pins it would cost them $960!
